Report on AAFP’s NCSC and ALF conferences

Two Texas members elected to national positions

TAFP had full representation at the AAFP National Conference on Special Constituencies and Annual Leadership Forum April 23-25 in Kansas City, Mo. NCSC is AAFP’s premiere policy developing event addressing issues specific to women, minorities, new physicians, international medical graduates and GLBTs. ALF gathers state chapter leaders to hone their knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of leadership.

The Texas NCSC delegation included one representative for each of the five special constituencies plus one third-year resident scholarship winner and one minority scholarship winner. In attendance at ALF were many of TAFP’s officers, delegates and staff plus two leadership scholarship winners.

While at NCSC and ALF, there are leadership opportunities that allow state chapter delegates to run for elected positions. Tricia Elliott, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., of Houston was elected to be one of two minority co-conveners of next year’s NCSC conference and was also elected to serve as a Special Constituency Alternate Delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates. Adrian Billings, M.D., Ph.D., of Alpine was elected to serve as a Young Physician Section Delegate to the American Medical Association.
