Vote for Foxhall and Cunningham for the TMA Board of Trustees

TAFP encourages you to elect two primary care physicians—Lewis Foxhall, M.D., of Houston, and Joe Cunningham, M.D., of Whitehouse—to the Texas Medical Association Board of Trustees. Last week, the Academy sent a letter of support from TAFP President Robert Youens, M.D., to all TMA voting delegates.

“In our careful consideration of all the candidates, we believe that right now—on the eve of a significant shift in health care delivery that will unsettle the very foundation of organized medicine—TMA must have leaders who will have the wisdom and courage borne of years of hard knocks and combat in the political trenches,” he wrote in the letter. Youens called Cunningham and Foxhall “fighters” who “when knocked down, will get up off the canvas and keep punching.”

Though only appointed delegates and alternate delegates in the TMA House of Delegates may cast the deciding vote, all TMA members may take part in their county medical association caucus, either through their specific county chapter or through consolidated meetings of smaller county chapters. Most caucuses meet Saturday morning from 6:30 - 8 a.m. View the schedule here.

The Academy encourages all family physician TMA members to vote or caucus in support of Dr. Lewis Foxhall and Dr. Joe Cunningham at the TexMed 2009 conference. For more information on TexMed 2009, go to TMA’s Web site, www.texmed.org.
