TAFP member talks about “STDs and everyday people” in book

With the message “it only takes on instance of unprotected sex to get a sexually transmitted disease,” TAFP member Jill Grimes, M.D., of Austin will release her book this fall called “Seductive Delusions: How Everyday People Catch STDs” with publisher Johns Hopkins University Press. Grimes has been in private practice as a family physician since 1994.

Grimes calls her book a “great tool for family physicians as we struggle to find more effective ways to educate our patients about sexually transmitted diseases.” Grimes takes readers through stories about “beautiful, educated people,” also offering a question and answer fact section and FAQs on the specific diseases. As she says, stories are far more powerful than statistics, making the format effective for long-term recall.
