Plan a helmet giveaway during Bike Month in May
posted 04.22.08
Support helmet safety awareness by hosting a Hard Hats for Little Heads helmet giveaway in your community during the month of May—Bike Month. Through the Texas Medical Association’s Hard Hats for Little Heads program, physicians, residents and medical students are encouraged to go to a school, community fair or organize an event at their clinic to raise awareness for bicycle safety by handing out helmets to children in their areas.
By focusing events during Bike Month, TMA will be able to more strongly promote physicians’ helmet giveaways to media across the state and encourage journalists to cover local Hard Hats for Little Heads events. These events support bicycle safety and also help bolster the image of family physicians as caregivers to all ages of patients. TMA would like to exceed last year’s 13 events during May by holding at least 30 this year during Bike Month.
For each event, TMA provides up to 50 free helmets. For TAFP members only, the Academy will purchase an additional 50 helmets. TMA provides educational materials in English and Spanish, a video showing proper helmet fit, and a helmet safety poster to post at your event, in schools, and at other locations where children gather.
