Cover the Uninsured Week, April 27-May 3, to raise awareness of the nation’s uninsured population

To raise awareness of the 47 million Americans living without health care coverage, including more than nine million children, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will hold the 2008 Cover the Uninsured Week
April 27-May 3.

Physicians play a key role in the health insurance debate. To get involved, physicians can hold an enrollment event at a hospital, community center or school; organize a health coverage forum or news conference with community leaders; plan a seminar for small business owners; or distribute flyers, information cards and bookmarks in their offices about low-cost and free health coverage programs to uninsured individuals and families. The event Web site, www.covertheuninsured.org, offers many free materials and tools to get involved with this cause including planning materials, fact sheets, and news on the uninsured.

There are several events already planned in Texas. For more information on these events, how to start your own or what you can do to support this cause, go to the Cover the Uninsured Week Web site, www.covertheuninsured.org.
