As the March 4, 2008, Texas primary election approaches, TAFP’s political arm encourages physicians to support the candidates who will best support their patients and practices.
"Now, perhaps more than ever before, Texas needs experienced leaders in the Texas Legislature who have a proven record of fighting for our patients," said Lloyd Van Winkle, M.D., chair, TAFPPAC. "We’re committed to providing our endorsed candidates the tools to reach the voters of Texas directly."
By joining with TEXPAC, the TMA Political Action Committee, TAFPPAC has produced and released seven candidate endoresement videos for the Texas primary—Rep. Betty Brown of Terrell, Rep. Garnet Coleman of Houston, Rep. Dawnna Dukes of Austin, Rep. Charlie Geren of Fort Worth, Rep. Vicki Truitt of Keller, Rep. Corbin Van Arsdale of Tomball, and Sen. Judith Zaffirini of Laredo.
"The political calculus of many campaigns for the Texas Legislature has changed," said Manuel Acosta, M.D., chair, TEXPAC Board of Directors. "Physicians’ PACs can’t compete in pure dollars with those who are prepared to pour $1 million into a campaign, but these videos allow us to extend the value of our endorsements in ways that matter the most—reaching the voters."
