Up to $200,000 available to support community obesity prevention programs

The Department of State Health Services Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention Program is now accepting grant proposals for nutrition or physical activity intervention models. DSHS will offer up to $50,000 each for programs in four Texas communities starting June 30, 2008.
Eligible applicants include city governance such as local health departments, city parks and recreation departments, and planning and engineering; community health centers; and community or non-profit organizations. To be considered, applicants must address changes in policy and/or environments to support healthy eating, physical activity or a combination, according to a DSHS release.
