TAFP members help develop course to prevent medical errors

TAFP past president F. David Schneider, M.D., of San Antonio, Lisa Nash, D.O., of Galveston, and Carlos Vallbona, M.D., of Houston, are working with the Texas Medical Association on a new course designed to reduce human error and promote patient safety. Medical students and physicians will access the course online to learn about six common areas for mistakes.
“Reducing medical errors in any way we can really is part of the medical education that wasn’t being addressed in a systematic way,” Schneider said in the August 24 San Antonio Express-News article. Schneider, who is faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center, is one of the associate editors of the course.
