Consensus reached: National health organizations define “medical homes”

Health system reform starts with a definition and the American Academy of Family Physicians has taken the first step to define the role of family physicians in the health care system. AAFP News Now reports that the AAFP, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians and the American Osteopathic Association have defined the term “personal medical home” and will use it as a foundation to obtain appropriate physician reimbursement, establish a coordinated system of care and influence efficient use of health care dollars.
