Urge Congress to fix the Medicare payment system with new toolkit
Nov. 30 is the latest deadline for Congress to act to fix the broken Medicare payment system. Gearing up for a full-court press effort this fall, AAFP has released a Medicare action toolkit to help family physicians and their patients generate support for fixing the system. Deadline extended to sign up for AAFP tobacco cessation pilot project
AAFP is still looking for practices to participate in a pilot project that will train practice staff to integrate tobacco cessation activities into daily office routines. Response from southern states was low and AAFP would like more from Texas. Practices selected will receive $3,500 in reimbursement to cover administrative costs. Apply by Friday, Sept. 2.

TAFP member elected president of TMF Health Quality Institute board
David Garza, D.O., of Laredo, has been elected president of the TMF Health Quality Institute Board of Trustees. In his one-year term, he will direct the 18-member board of the nonprofit health care consulting company.

Don’t miss out on double prescribed credit at Primary Care Summit
The 2010 Primary Care Summit in Houston or Dallas will be the last TAFP symposia eligible for two-for-one evidence-based CME credit. AAFP will no longer award double credit as of Jan. 1, 2011. TAFP is currently collecting EB-CME documentation from our outstanding program faculty and expect participants will be able to earn more credit than ever before; exact credits will be announced in mid-October.
