Austin newspaper highlights Texas primary care workforce shortage

AAFP: Educate yourself and patients with health care reform resources
Two successive telephone town hall meetings on Aug. 31 gave family physicians from around the country the chance to pose questions about national health care reform to three AAFP leaders. At the end of the call, they recommended three steps for members to educate themselves and their patients: subscribe to the Connect for Reform campaign, utilize Speak Out, and download and share the AAFP one-page patient primer on health care reform myths. Texas ranks 12th in immunizing kids, sees slight rise from previous year
Survey results released by the CDC reveal that Texas childhood immunization rates have improved, placing the state at 12th best in the country. The 2008 ranking represents the all-time high for Texas and continues Texas’ upward trend since 2002.
