Research Opportunities

The AAFP offers opportunities for family medicine residents and medical students to receive recognitions for original research at the 2006 AAFP Scientific Assembly in Washington, DC, September 28-30, 2006. For more information go to www.aafp.org/assembly. Proposals must be submitted by April 3.

National Conference - A Unique Experience

Each year, the American Academy of Family Physicians offers a conference designed just for family medicine residents and students. The National Conference is exciting, inspiring and educational. The conference is August 2-5 in Kansas City. With educational workshops and lectures, a residency fair, networking opportunities, meetings of the National Congress of Family Medicine Residents and the National Congress of Student Members you'll have trouble figuring out how to fit all of the activities in.

Go to Kansas City for the residency fair, for the opportunity to discuss issues of importance to you, and for the opportunity to learn something new. TAFP Annual Session

Come be a part of our family as the Texas Academy of Family Physicians hosts the 57th Annual Session and Scientific Assembly in Frisco, Texas, July 20-23, 2006. Each year, hundreds of primary care physicians from across a multi-state region gather to learn, network, explore the latest in techniques, products and services, and to have a great time. It's like a big family reunion, and we want you to be there. There will be special activities for students and residents including section meetings and the research poster competition.

Funding:
The TAFP Foundation provides travel reimbursement up to $400 per student for 10 medical students. Residency programs are eligible to receive $500 per year to assist with travel. Please contact Paige Newman at pnewman@tafp.org or call (512) 329-8666, ext 35 as soon as you can to guarantee funding.

Scholarships Available

The TAFP Foundation has three scholarships currently seeking applicants. They all have specific criteria, so please read through all of the descriptions below to see if you qualify. Arnold N. Krause, MD, Scholarship
Available to 3rd or 4th year medical students from or currently living in Tarrant County who have a strong interest in family practice. 

Valley Chapter Scholarship
Available to 3rd or 4th year medical students from the Rio Grande Valley area of the state who intend to practice in the Valley and have a strong interest in family practice. 

South Texas Scholarship
Available to 3rd or 4th year medical students who are from or intend to practice in the counties of Dewitt, Lavaca, Goliad, Victoria, Jackson or Calhoun and have a strong interest in family practice.
