TAFP celebrates Match Day 2024

Family medicine has its largest Match ever, continuing to lead all medical specialties in students committing to primary care

Congratulations to all graduating medical students participating in the 2024 National Resident Matching Program Main Residency Match, and especially those who matched into family medicine residency programs here in Texas. Nationwide, this was another banner year for family medicine, as 4,595 medical students and graduates matched to family medicine residency programs. TAFP President Terrance Hines, MD, posted a video on Instagram congratulating all graduating medical students taking the next step to becoming the next generation of family physicians. “Matching into family medicine is not just a career choice, it’s about joining a tight-knit community dedicated to the well-being of patients and families across Texas and beyond,” he said. “Your impact will ripple through generations, shaping the health and happiness of countless individuals."

Welcoming new residents in training to the “family” of family medicine is among the greatest joys for the members and leaders of TAFP. We hope everyone enjoys their Match Day celebrations.
