TAFP focuses on dwindling physician supply with second Academy in Action video
posted 12.05.07
TAFP has released the second Webcast in the Academy in Action series, “Will There Be Enough Family Physicians?” to draw attention to the need to support graduate medical education. This edition of Academy in Action brings lawmakers and Texas family physicians in front of the camera to discuss the decreasing supply of family physicians, especially in rural areas; the benefits family medicine residency programs to communities; and proposals to increase the supply of medical students choosing to practice family medicine.
“I think there’s going to be a real crisis and I think we’re already seeing the start of that crisis in areas that are underserved by family physicians,” explained TAFP President Linda Siy, M.D., in the video. “People don’t have access to health care—basic health care—and that’s only going to worsen.”
