Texas physicians joined a throng of other health care professionals and their friends, family and patients from around the country on the U.S. Capitol lawn Sept. 27 to tell Congress to take action on issues that threaten access to health care for all Americans. Among those in attendance at the Vote for America’s Health Rally were TAFP President Doug Curran, M.D., newly elected Board of Directors representative Roland Goertz, M.D., and many other past and present Texas leaders.
Along with the rally, AAFP released a physician workforce study that has gained much positive media attention for AAFP and family medicine. A Cox News Service article quotes both Curran and Goertz and an Associated Press story quotes AAFP President Larry Fields, M.D., and Perry Pugno, M.D.
These public statements serve to alert lawmakers of growing concern for primary care shortages and barriers to care. Read more about the events of AAFP’s Scientific Assembly on AAFP’s Web site.
