State Health Services extends coverage to 135 children with special needs

The Texas Department of State Health Services has announced that 135 children have been approved for coverage through the Children with Special Health Care Needs Services Program.

In a letter to providers, the department states:

“We have good news to share with you! The Children with Special Health Care Needs Services Program (CSHCN) removed another 135 clients from its waiting list with an effective date of April 1, 2006. These clients will have an Eligibility Form (printed on gray paper) that shows the dates of services that can be covered. Claims for service dates covered by the eligibility form should be submitted for reimbursement in the same manner as all CSHCN claims. Families have been instructed to take their eligibility information to their providers. Claims will be processed through TMHP or DSHS as appropriate. We will review specific requests for services provided between April 1 and April 27 that would have required prior authorization as needed. If they meet the requirements, such services will be retroactively authorized.”

For more information call the CSHCN Services Program at (800) 252-8023 or access the program’s Web site at www.dshs.state.tx.us/cshcn/.
