Help Us Fund the TAFP Foundation Minority Medical Student Scholarship

Why a Minority Scholarship?

The Institute of Medicine’s study on diversity in the health care workforce released in 2004 found that racial and ethnic minority physicians are more likely to serve minority and underserved communities than their peers, thereby increasing access to care.

The TAFP Foundation has a robust scholarship program. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $98,000 in scholarships to bright young medical students and family medicine residents. Currently, all of the medical student scholarships require the recipient to attend a specific medical school or have an affiliation with a specific region. The TAFP Foundation Minority Medical Student Scholarship will be the first TAFP Foundation scholarship specifically for underrepresented minorities.

Future Recipients

The TAFP Foundation Board of Trustees or their designees will establish specific criteria and select recipients. Once funded, the scholarship will benefit a third-year medical student at a Texas medical school who is an underrepresented minority and has demonstrated a commitment to family medicine.
