Quality assurance could win you a trip of a lifetime

TAFP Foundation launches initiative during Annual Session to encourage participation in NCQA Physician Recognition Programs

During her address during the TAFP Annual Session, President Erica W. Swegler, MD, announced that the TAFP and the TAFP Foundation will be working together this year to encourage family physicians to take the necessary steps to achieve recognition in either Diabetes or Heart/Stroke, or both. TAFP Active Members who participate in the National Committee on Quality Assurance Diabetes Physician Recognition Program or Heart/Stroke Physician Recognition Program will be eligible to win a marvelous rest-and-relaxation prize if they achieve recognition before July 1, 2006.

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. These two recognition programs were developed with the help of the American Diabetes Association, the American Stroke Association and the American Heart Association. Recognition is awarded to physicians who demonstrate that they meet certain thresholds based on widely accepted national guidelines.

Free child development kit from cdc

Educational Resources You Can Provide to Parents on Developmental Milestones

It’s important for parents to know if their children, even as young as six months, are developing physical and mental skills as they should.  To help them, the CDC, along with its national partners, will launch the “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” campaign to help parents identify the important developmental milestones for young children. Along with height and weight, activities like smiling, pointing, and pretending are all important milestones in the first years of a child’s life.  In preparation for the anticipated increase in awareness and education among parents, CDC is encouraging the health care professional community to order free resource materials on measuring developmental milestones.

Red River Chapter Encourages Member Involvement

Chapter Members who attended TAFP Annual Session to get $150 to defray expenses

The TAFP Red River Chapter officers informed members last week that each chapter member who attended the TAFP Annual Session in San Antonio would receive $150. In a fax to the chapter membership President Barry Williams, M.D., wrote, "We applaud your involvement in this organization as it is the only means that we, as family physicians, have to bring forth our particular and very specific family medicine agenda. The Academy has been instrumental in guiding legislation friendly to primary care, to protection of our patients medical needs and to the medical community in general."
